«Advantages of e85

If you'd like to learn a little more about e85 ethanol, watch the video below.  The first part of a video is a clip of a recent speech made by U.S. President Bush.  Subsequent portions of the video explain what e85 is and how it can dramatically reduce dependency on oil.

The article below discusses e85 conversion kits and how they can be a good idea if installed properly and legally.

E85 Ethanol may be the greatest thing to hit the fuel pumps, but the downside of it is that it does not run well on cars that do not contain flexible fuel engines. When used with non-flexible fuel engines, there is a chance that corrosion could take place as well as ethanol separation from water and gasoline.

Making E85 Work for You

E85 conversion kits have been suggested to ensure every motorist in the country can enjoy the benefits of the economically priced fuel, whether their car is outdated or not. For an E85 conversion to take place on an older model car, factors such as engine size, fuel injector size, material composition of fuel lines, and fuel pump composition have to be taken into consideration.

Right now, the E85 conversion kit is widely available in Brazil and close to eighty percent of the country has made the switch to E85. On E85 bulletin boards across the Internet, owners of older model cars are expressing a hint of euphoria about the fact that they may soon be able to use E85 ethanol, thanks to the conversion kits.

Legal Trouble

Sadly, E85 conversion kits are currently prohibited from being sold in the United States. This ban started when conversion kits for natural gas were being sold. These kits were prohibited because of safety concerns.

An EPA certification is required in order to obtain the E85 conversion kit and is subjected to emissions controls. The EPA certification alone can cost around $25,000. And one still has to go through the routine of confirming with EPA that the car's emissions would be low and kept under the 50,000 miles.

Conversion Companies

There are a few conversion companies that have pitched the idea of producing E85 conversion kits for older model cars. But most of them lack what the EPA is looking for, which is the maintenance of a clean exhaust emission. This falls under the EPA's Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990. Violation of EPA's law can cost you several significant penalties.

Conversion kit manufacturers are still tweaking the idea of providing the E85 conversion kit for older model cars. None, however, has made an attempt to get certified and maybe they've got a good explanation why. For one thing, to get EPA certified is costly and secondly, why would anyone want to bring out a conversion kit, when the car dealers are manufacturing cars that are E85 compatible?

The Wave of the Future

Companies like Honda, General Motors, Ford, and Honda are currently building their vehicles so they adhere to the EPA's exhaust emission standards. The warranty on these vehicles goes from 100,000 miles for 10 years. So, while it is possible to get your hands on a conversion kit, the best option may be to purchase one of the many vehicle makes with flexible fuel engines currently being produced.

What is E85 Ethanol & How is it made

Rising gasoline prices have heightened consumer awareness about E85 ethanol. These days, there is much ado about this fuel, and why shouldn’t there be? After all, it costs close to thirty five percent less than gasoline and is quickly becoming the preferred choice for motorists at the pump stations.  E85 ethanol is already widely used in Sweden and pump stations in America, with states like Minnesota and Illinois having the highest rate of E85 fuel pumps servicing motorists.

What is E 85 Ethanol?
When 15 percent of leaded gasoline is combined with eighty five percent of ethanol, the result is the low-cost E85 ethanol fuel.  Widely available in the US, it is an alcohol-based fuel that can be produced from employing the use of two methods. The first source of production involves the fermenting and distilling of starch-like feedstock. They include corn, barley, and wheat. The next method, which is referred as bio-ethanol, involves extraction from trees and grasses.

Although the price of the Ethanol E85 may be foremost on consumer’s minds, it also gets the nod from earth activists because it is an environmentally friendly product.  It burns clean and its key ingredient source is renewable.  Ethanol E85 also eliminates the import of crude oil because it is locally produced and is also known for increasing the octane rating in fuel while decreasing the harmful emissions caused by gasoline.

Ethanol E85 will run well in flexible fuel vehicles like those manufactured by Daimler Chrysler, Ford, General Motors, Isuzu and Nissan to name a few.  But, if you don’t own a vehicle by one of the above-mentioned manufacturers, you need not fear. Some people are not aware that many other cars manufactured today are Ethanol E85 compatible. It is best to find out from your car dealer if you have a flexible fuel vehicle.

How is E85 Ethanol Made?
The method for producing Ethanol E85 is long and complex. The maker has to first extract sugar from biological feedstock in order to begin the process.  Corn is the leading ingredient in Ethanol E85 gas. And the starch in it can easily be converted into sugar. Sugar for this fuel can also be extracted from cellulose, which is a sugar based ingredient found in trees and grasses.

Once the feedstock is collected, it goes through a grinding process to extract the sugar. Sugar fed into microbes quickly produces ethanol and carbon dioxide, which finally endures purification stages to get the ethanol to the right consistency.

There is another method of manufacturing Ethanol E85 oil or grain alcohol, as it is also known, and this is through a wet-milling process. This is also the method that large-scale manufacturers use when producing high-fructose corn sweetener.

Ethanol E85 is an innovative and renewable resource with many positive characteristics, making it one of the leading topics of discussion for those looking to help the earth and looking to keep a few extra bucks in their wallet.

What is an aftermarket alternative fuel vehicle conversion? A converted vehicle was originally designed to operate on gasoline but has been altered to run on an alternative fuel such as compressed natural gas (CNG) or liquefied petroleum gas (LPG or propane). Vehicle conversions offer AFV options to fleet managers and consumers alike, beyond the supply of original equipment manufacturer (OEM) alternative fuel vehicles. All vehicle conversions must be certified according to Mobile Source Enforcement Memorandum 1A (Memo 1A), as well as the Addendum to Memo 1A, and the Revision to the Addendum to Memo 1A, which were issued by EPA.
